I talk with a lot of businesses that are thinking of getting started with Facebook Ads. And one of the most common concerns business owners have is, “how can we make sure the first X dollars ($100, $500, $1,000, whatever) we invest into Facebook Ads isn’t wasted?”
If you’ve never run Facebook Ads for your business before, there’s likely an air of suspicion around it. No matter how many case studies or success stories you read, you’re still skeptical whether it will work for your business.
That’s why in this post, I’m going to be showing you the 1 type of Facebook Ad campaign that every business should have set up, regardless of their size, current revenue, or website traffic, that guarantees profit and a positive ROI right from the start.
The magic of retargeting
I’ve written about retargeting previously on this blog, but that post was much more on the technical specifics of retargeting, ie. how to actually set up retargeting campaigns. This post, conversely, is more for new and growing businesses who aren’t utilizing Facebook Ads yet (but should be) and need to be convinced.
Every business, no matter what size or current revenue, should have some form of retargeting in place. Retargeting (or remarketing) is the act of advertising to people that have already interacted with your business or website in some way.

Access the FormulaIf you’ve ever added something to your cart on a website, didn’t buy it, then a few days later got an email or Facebook Ad trying to get you to finish your purchase, that’s retargeting. Other common retargeting events are showing ads to people that viewed a product’s landing page (but didn’t purchase), visited a contact form (but didn’t submit it), etc.
Retargeting is essentially ‘catching’ the people that fall out of your marketing funnel and attempting to sell or close them again.
Every business should run retargeting for 2 main reasons:
Massive ROI potential
First and foremost, retargeting is where you’ll see some of the largest ROI numbers, simply because it is one of the easiest campaigns you could ever run.
Since you are targeting people that have already interacted with you and/or demonstrated some level of interest in your product or service, it is going to be 100x easier (slight exaggeration) to get them over the buying ‘hump’ than it will be for someone who’s never heard of you.
It is not uncommon to see ROIs of 500-1,000%+ if you have a small, but growing business:
Low risk and budget
Retargeting campaigns can be run for literal dollars a day. For businesses that are scared of dumping hundreds of dollars into an advertising channel that might not be worthwhile, retargeting offers a happy middleground, given the fact that you can still see massive results on just $5-$10 a day budgets.
Even new businesses (that don’t have any customers or revenue yet) should have a retargeting campaign in place. One of your first customers could be someone you retarget!
Additionally, a retargeting campaign is one of the lowest-risk campaigns you can run for your business. Compared to cold traffic, which can’t be quite tricky for new businesses to nail down, retargeting provides you access to people that have already demonstrated some level of interest in your businesses products and/or services.
Next steps
If you’re not utilizing retargeting, I highly recommend you start ASAP. I wrote another blog post on the exact setup I use for retargeting campaigns here. Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions 🙂
